Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled DB2 System Programmer to support our enterprise-wide IBM DB2 for z/OS environment. This role is critical in managing the installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of DB2 subsystems to ensure peak performance, availability, and security. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with DB2 DBAs, z/OS Systems Programmers, application developers, and infrastructure operations teams to deliver expert-level support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and upgrade IBM DB2 for z/OS software and related tools.
- Ensure the high availability, performance tuning, and stability of DB2 subsystems.
- Plan and execute DB2 version upgrades and fix packs in alignment with enterprise standards.
- Perform health checks, problem analysis, and root cause determination for DB2 issues.
- Collaborate with application and DBA teams to support performance optimization and database design.
- Create and maintain system documentation, configurations, and change records.
- Provide on-call support for critical incidents and participate in disaster recovery exercises.
- Monitor system performance and proactively suggest improvements.
- Adhere to change management and incident management protocols.
- Participate in audits and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a DB2 System Programmer in a z/OS mainframe environment.
- Strong expertise in DB2 subsystem installation, migration, and maintenance.
- Deep understanding of SMP/E, JCL, REXX, and z/OS architecture.
- Experience with DB2 performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with tools such as IBM Utilities, BMC, CA, or Rocket Software.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and coordination skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience working with onshore/offshore support models is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and provide on-call support when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DB2 Certification (IBM Certified System Programmer – DB2 for z/OS).
- Experience with automation tools and scripting in mainframe environments.
- Prior experience in a regulated industry (e.g., banking, insurance, healthcare) is a plus.
- Work Environment:
- Must be available during US Eastern business hours.
- On-call support rotation will be required during evenings/weekends as needed.
